Biography

Rick Klepfer started his design business in Florida in 1971. While there, he designed numerous homes, commercial structures, professional offices and even a church.

In the mid 1970’s he relocated to Pennsylvania where he worked for the prominent architectural firm of John Milner Associates (National Heritage), where he became project architect for many large historic restoration projects as well as residences. Among the many projects that he worked on during this period were: a 19th century marine-railway terminal in New Jersey, a building consisting of a 350 foot tall doric column sitting on an island in Lake Erie, and a 19th century building in the form of a 60 foot tall elephant.
While at John Milner Associates, he also produced a number of measured drawings of historic buildings for the Historic American Building Survey; some of which are now held in the Library of Congress. Concurrently with this employment, he maintained his own private design practice throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.

He later joined North Atlantic Investment Corporation as the Vice President for architecture and engineering, where he worked on the evaluation of office buildings, apartment buildings and commercial shopping centers throughout the country.

In the 1990’s he worked for the firm of Martin Rosenblum and Associates as a project architect. While based in Philadelphia, most of the work was conducted in Washington, D.C. where he worked on additions and alterations to many historic homes. Among the major projects that he was involved with were the homes of many prominent politicians and a vast, early 20th century synagogue in Philadelphia. As a member of the design team for a large mountaintop house on a private island in the Caribbean, he spent two and a half years on the site, overseeing the construction.

Since 1999, Rick Klepfer has been working in Mid-coast Maine on primarily residential projects. He has put his years of experience in working on historic homes to advantage in designing and renovating homes in the Mid-Coast area.
